Whom Shall God Send? – Isaiah 6:5

Wake Up Call

Last week as my friend and I worked on a radio production he suddenly said; “You know the age of atheism is over.” “I think you are right” I told him. I remember back when you might frequently hear people say they were an atheist. I very rarely hear that anymore.

Yes, I know we still have those who are bringing suits and trying to change the Pledge of Allegiance and remove “In God we trust” from our money. Still, polls show over and over that the majority of Americans believe in God.

Yet, if we believe in God, why is our society in such moral drift? It’s not all bad but there is plenty to point to that pushes the envelope of godless living. I wonder if the problem is what kind of a God we believe in. Do we see him as so weak and remote that he is unable to intervene? Or, is it that we see him so permissive and indulgent that he just winks and looks away?

He is neither. When the prophet Isaiah was caught up into heaven and saw the holiness of God he cried out; “Woe is me, for I am undone! Because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips.” (Isaiah 6:5)

Just believing God exists doesn’t cut it. If he exists; what are we going to do about it? How are we going to live? How are we going to work to change our society so that it honors the God we say we believe in? Isaiah knew what to do. When God asked who he could send to deliver his message to the people, Isaiah responded; “Here I am! Send me.” (Verse 8)

Do you believe in God? Ask him to send YOU.
