What Are You Feeding? – Matthew 22:37

Wake Up Call

Have you seen the commercials on television that compare two plants: one has been fed Miracle-Gro and the other hasn’t? The difference may appear exaggerated but I have used the product and can attest to the accuracy portrayed. No, this is not an endorsement for Miracle-Gro. Rather, it reminds me of this principle: whatever you feed – grows.

Feed your body and it grows (maybe larger than you would like). Feed an addiction and the hooks go in deeper. Feed your mind and you learn. On the other hand, what you starve dies. If you reduce calorie intake you will lose weight. If you deny an addiction the hooks will loosen.

Now here is the question: what are you feeding? For instance, if you want your soul to prosper, you need to throw it more than a bone every once in awhile. You feed things by the time and resources and passion you invest in them. I know a man who so fed his passion for golf that he made his wife sign an agreement before they married stating that she would never interfere with his game. (They are no longer married.)

Ask yourself: what is my mind on most of the time? What is my money invested in? What am I most passionate about? Jesus said; “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.”(Matthew 22:37) Think about it: do you need to change what you are feeding?
