What parent doesn’t want the very best for their children? There is so much investment in having them and raising them that we would like the end product to be worthy of all the hard work wouldn’t we? What if OUR child is elected President; composes music to rival Beethoven; is on the winning team in the Superbowl; discovers the cure for cancer or negotiates peace in the Middle East?

Did you know that there is something you can do to insure a wonderful legacy for your children? I’m not talking about child rearing methods. Instead, scripture has a prescription for the parent that has ramifications for their offspring into the next generation.

Think of it as cause and effect. “How blessed is the man who fears the Lord, who greatly delights in His commandments” (Psalm 112:1). That’s the “cause” part. Fear the Lord (have great awe and esteem for Him) and delight in His commandments (search His ways and obey Him with joy). Now here is the result: “His descendants will be mighty on earth; the generation of the upright will be blessed. Wealth and riches are in his house, and his righteousness endures forever” (Verse 2).

Fulfill the first part and then begin to declare the result. Speak it out every day over your children. Watch to see then, year by year, how they fulfill their divine destiny and live a life that makes you proud of your mighty descendants.
