Pick – Luke 16:13

Wake Up Call

Many years ago, in my old corporate life, I at one point found myself reporting simultaneously to both the President and Vice President of our company. This became sticky for me at times. They had two very different styles and often gave me different direction on the same project. It was counterproductive to me and the company.

I think I was about six months into this arrangement when I sat down with the two of them for a talk. I told them my problem honestly. “I can’t work for both of you at the same time. You please pick which one, and that’s who I will report to exclusively from now on.” They agreed and I went forward much more effectively.

In the spiritual realm, I think a great number of people try to maintain a dual reporting system: both God and the world. Jesus said; “No servant can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.” (Luke 16:13)

The truth is it does not work because the two systems are at cross purposes. They have nothing in common with each other. The person who keeps one foot in God’s kingdom and one foot in the world’s kingdom is ineffective in both of them. If that’s you I suggest you sit down and have the talk. In this case, you are the one who decides. Think it over but don’t procrastinate. PICK!
