Slow Poisoning – Psalm 140:2

Wake Up Call

A dear friend of mine just recently extricated herself from a company with a very poison environment. This verse from Psalm 140 could easily describe them: “Who devise evil things in their hearts; they continually stir up wars. They sharpen their tongues as a serpent; poison of a viper is under their lips” (Verses 2, 3).

It was a hard call to leave because professionally, this firm offered much to positively build her resume and supply needed industry knowledge. Additionally, my friend gave notice without another job in the wings and money was very tight. From the outside, it looked like such a great place to work but that was an illusion.

I could tell before she could that it was important to leave. She was being dragged down; her confidence slowly eroding. Very talented and normally unswervingly upbeat, her smile was fading and she was starting to question whether she could do anything right. That was one of the problems. Nothing was ever good enough; no project was done fast enough. The only feedback was negative; the atmosphere tense.

It has now been about three months since she left the toxic company. Just the way poison is, it took awhile to get it out of her system. A few days ago she said she finally feels like her old self.

If you are in a similar situation, clear your head and figure a way out of there. God will help you. Remember that; “I know that the Lord will maintain the cause of the afflicted, and justice for the poor” (Psalm 140:12.) Don’t give in to slow poisoning.
