Change for the Sake of Change

Wake Up Call

A few days ago my friend who is also one of my violin partners came over for practice. We got talking once we had finished and she told me a secret she felt God recently shared with her in her prayer time. She said it was alright to pass it on to all of you.

Change is an inevitable part of life but for most people it is also pretty hard. It is not unusual for us as human beings to resist change or struggle with the adjustments required every time it occurs. On the other hand, most of us know that change is good for us. It “un-sticks” us when we settle too far into a rut.

Maybe God uses it for something else too. The biggest change any of us will ever have to make is that one at the last trumpet when “the dead will be raised imperishable, and we shall be changed.” (1 Corinthians 15:52) The result? “For this perishable must put on the imperishable, and this mortal must put on immorality.” (Verse 53)

We cannot realize the magnitude of what it will take for our mortal corruptible body to make that transition. But God spoke to my friend that he uses changes we experience on earth to in some ways prepare us for it. She only got a hint of what it means but it left her in awe.

I felt the same way. Just one more example of how God works ALL things together for our good. (See Romans 8:28) Even a natural life process – like change, has spiritual purposes as God never wastes a thing. The next time a change comes along that you don’t like one bit, embrace it for the sake of the CHANGE.
