What Kind of God? – Luke 12:7

Wake Up Call

According to polls, the majority of people believe in God but what kind of God do they believe in?

A remote God? Many people seem to believe that yes, there is a God, but he is not interested in what goes on with us here on earth. He made it and now he just lets it run without his help or intervention. But the Bible says; “Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.” (Luke 12:7)

An indulgent God? This is the view that God accepts any behavior, any lifestyle, because, after all, we are only human. Really, what does he expect? In this view, there is no eternal punishment; everyone goes to heaven and God excuses our behavior like a permissive parent. But the Bible says; “But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; for it is written: Be holy, because I am holy.” (1 Peter 1:15)

A vindictive God? There are those who see God as a “gotcha” guy. He is watching every minute to try to catch us doing something wrong so he can smack us back and keep us down. But the Bible says; “If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all – how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things?”(Romans 8:31)

A fuzzy God? This is the God who is fuzzy with his directions on how to reach him. In this view God accepts all paths, all methods – there is no single road that leads to God. But the Bible says; “Salvation is found in no one else (Jesus Christ), for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved.” (Acts 4:12)

Have you formed your opinion about what kind of God you believe in? Does it match one of the above or something else? How does your idea fit with what God says about himself? Try the Bible; only there can you find a perfect match.
