Tent of Meeting – Exodus 33:11

Wake Up Call

How would you like to have a special spot where every time you went there, God showed up? Moses had such a spot and he named it the “tent of meeting” (Exodus 33:7). It was an actual tent pitched near the camp of Israel as they journeyed through the desert.

I think this is the best part about the tent of meeting: “Thus the Lord used to speak to Moses face to face, just as a man speaks to his friend (Verse 11). Could anything be better than that? With a friend you can be yourself, you can share your deep thoughts and listen to theirs. You can ask a favor and know your friend will do anything for you. You can be perfectly honest and know your friend loves you for yourself.

Wouldn’t it be great to have a return to the tent of meeting? Was it only for Moses in the Old Testament days? Actually, I think God is longing to set up tents of meeting with any of us who have a desire. In fact, doesn’t God’s Word tell us that “we are the temple of the living God” (2 Corinthians 6:16)?

All the nicer. We don’t have to add on an extra room in our house or place a little guest cottage for God out on our property. We too, can speak to Him just as a man speaks to his friend if only we are willing to build a tent of meeting in our heart.
