Reap a Heap

Wake Up Call

What is your mindset? Does your heart seem to be fixed on what you can give or what you can get? Scripture says; “Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously.” 2 Corinthians 9:6. During the sowing part of life we often forget about the consequences, but the truth is: give little; get little. Give much; get much.

This refers to all kinds of giving, not just finances. Take a generous amount of time listening to the troubles of a friend and you will receive a generous amount later when you need a sounding board. Give someone the benefit of the doubt and that goes into your bank account for later use.

What if you are a “sparingly” person and you would like to change to a “generously” one? it just takes a little awareness and then follow-through. If you have already admitted your condition, you have the awareness part taken care of. Now, as you go through your routine at home, at work, at church, start to evaluate every opportunity. How can you turn each situation into a big give away? Choose to give more than before. Realize what the old “sparingly” you would have done in the past and up the ante a notch or two–or three or four.

The beginning will be hard–very hard. But you will get used to it. Eventually you won’t have to even think about it; it will be natural. Then watch God. He will see to it that you reap a heap!
