The Darkness – Daniel 2:22

Wake Up Call

I had a nightmare once while sleeping in a strange hotel in a new city. When I woke up with a start, the room was inky dark and I was disoriented. I fumbled and didn’t know which way to reach because I could see nothing and wasn’t even sure where I was. In a few seconds I dropped out of bed onto the floor and began crawling to a wall hoping I could feel my way to a light switch. Things seemed so much better when that light finally went on.

Circumstances can cloak us in as much darkness. Sometimes a “nightmare” of an event hits us so suddenly and hard we feel utterly disoriented. We wish we could flip a switch to shed some kind of light on what we are going through. I’ve been in places before where, spiritually speaking, I couldn’t see my hand in front of my face.

God’s Word says; “He knows what is in the darkness, and light dwells with Him.” (Daniel 2:22b) Just knowing that is true is like turning on a light. What relief! We don’t mind being in a dark place so much if we are with someone who knows the way out. As long as we are going to be guided with surety into a place of safety, what difference does it make how dark it is?

Since the “light dwells with Him” we need to dwell with him too. Grab hold of his hand quickly and squeeze tightly. Don’t let go. There is no darkness in his light.
