Abundance of Grace, for What?

Wake Up Call

The Christian way of life is a pretty high calling. Truth is, dying to ourselves so we can serve other people like Jesus taught us to is near impossible by human standards. But God beckons us so there must be a way.

What would it be like to be over-qualified for ministry rather than always running on empty? I’ve heard people talk about ministering to others out of the saucer rather than the cup. Imagine a teacup so full that is spills over into the saucer. As long as that’s the case there will always be enough to share.

Scripturally, I think I found a passage to back that up. It gives me hope that we can all fulfill our highest call. 2 Corinthians 9:8 says: “And God is able to make all grace abound to you, that always having all sufficiency in everything, you may have an abundance for every good deed.”

ALL GRACE. I know that’s what I need. Grace when I don’t feel like it. Grace when I’m too tired. Grace when I’m broke. Grace that overlooks the ugly. Grace to give grace instead of judgment or criticism.

I often seek God’s grace because it is what I need and want for myself. But I’ve never before realized WHY grace is promised to be so readily available. It isn’t there so my life will be more comfortable though I admit that’s often my real motivation for wanting it.

We shouldn’t hesitate to request grace from God. It’s there for the asking. Just remember why: an abundance for every good deed.
