What’s New With You? – Psalm 98:1

Wake Up Call

“O sing to the Lord a new song, for He has done wonderful things” (Psalm 98:1). Does that mean that we should try to compose music to the Lord, even if we can’t carry a tune? What really is a “new” song?

Think back over your life with the Lord to all the wonderful things He has done. There was that moment in time when He rescued and saved you from sin; maybe you have experienced physical or emotional healing; maybe He has come through with financial miracles. But if some of those things happened quite awhile ago, they are old songs.

I’m not saying you should stop thanking God for all His blessings from the past but what new blessings do you have to praise Him for? If you are stuck in old miracles, look around. I bet He is doing something new and maybe you haven’t noticed. Sometimes we grow weary in life and fail to see God’s fresh work in our life every single day.

The Lord tells us: “‘Do not call to mind the former things, or ponder things from the past. Behold, I will do something new, now it will spring forth; will you not be aware of it'” (Isaiah 43:18)? So the next time someone asks: “what’s new with you?” don’t just recite the same old, same old. Sing to the Lord a new song!
