How Big Is Your Bottle? – Psalm 56:8

Wake Up Call

“You number my wanderings; put my tears into your bottle; are they not in your book?” (Psalm 56:8) So God is keeping track of every where I go and every tear I shed? Are there any of us who have no tears? Who has not experienced pain, tragedy, disappointment or regret? Tears are a pretty common part of life, aren’t they?

Yet, the God of the whole universe who keeps every star in place and orders the destinies of kings and arranges the changes in times and seasons cares enough to not only notice my tears but measure them and store them in a bottle with my name on it. How amazing that we serve a God who so deeply cares about every detail of our life.

Why do you suppose those tears are being bottled? I think it is because of what God is going to do with them in the end. I think we are going to get to exchange them for recompense, victory and joy. God knows why each tear was shed and He stands ready to hand us a diamond in trade for every one. That’s why scripture says; “Those who sow in tears shall reap in joy” (Psalm 126:5).

I love the idea that God cares enough to track my sorrow and pain but I love even more that those things have ultimate purpose. It gives me a whole new perspective on tears. How big is your bottle? With God’s exchange plan in mind, who cares?
