Did You Blow It This Badly? – Luke 11:61

Wake Up Call

Poor Peter. Jesus told him in advance that Satan had it in for him and there was going to be a big attack. Peter was incredulous; there is no way he would betray his beloved rabbi; he was hurt that Jesus would think such a thing.

Then in the garden of Gethsemane, Jesus entreated the disciples to pray. He pulled aside Peter, James and John to be with him as he prepared for his suffering and death. Here was another chance for Peter to be ready for the big temptation that was about to hit him. But did he pray? No, he fell asleep. Three times Jesus roused them but to no avail; their eyes were heavy.

Suddenly things started really popping; arrest, dragging away, following at a distance, waiting in a courtyard – fear overriding everything. So Peter totally betrayed Jesus by denying he even knew him. “Then the Lord turned and looked at Peter. Then Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how He had said to him, ‘Before the rooster crows, you will deny Me three times.’ So Peter went out and wept bitterly.” (Luke 22:61)

Have you blown it this badly? You knew better but you did it anyhow. You fell for something you never thought you could fall for. You sinned big time. Now there is recrimination and bitter weeping. Just like Peter, Jesus knew you were going to fall. Here’s what Jesus said; “But I have prayed for you, that your faith should not fail; and when you have returned to Me, strengthen your brethren.” (Luke 22:32)

Go ahead and return to him. Jesus has prayed for you too.
