The Copycat

Wake Up Call

Did you ever think about this: Satan is not an originator. He has no capacity to create anything, or bring forth anything new. So what does he do? He’s a copycat. Everything that God has created, he has an imitation of it and he hopes he can fool people into accepting it as the real thing.

For instance, he counterfeits the gifts of the Holy Spirit and that’s how you end up with psychics as a counterfeit to the gift of prophecy. I remember going to a “Reader” when I was young and long before I became a Christian. She scattered religious articles over her house and on her walls giving an allusion of spiritual legitimacy. She had powers alright but they were from the copycat – not the originator, God. At that point in my life, she fooled me.

1 Corinthians 14:1 says to “Pursue love, and desire spiritual gifts, but especially that you may prophesy.” A few verses later Paul tells the purpose of spiritual gifts: “let it be for the edification of the church that you seek to excel.” (Verse 12) That points to a good way to tell the difference. The copycat does nothing to edify anybody – usually the “Reader” or “Psychic” is doing it for the money. I know I plunked down about twenty dollars for my reading.

As you evaluate the plethora of spiritual offerings bombarding you from every direction ask yourself if a copy is really good enough. I don’t think so. If you can have the genuine article, why settle for anything by the copycat?
