Starved

Wake Up Call

Perhaps you are aware of the ten year old grilled cheese sandwich which sold on eBay some time ago for $28,000. What was its claim to fame? To the maker it appeared to grill up with an image of the Virgin Mary so the owner put it in a plastic box with cotton balls and kept it on her nightstand for the next ten years. Finally she decided to sell it.

Bidding was intense and up to $22,000 until eBay took it down thinking it was a joke. This was no joke however and the sandwich went back up for auction again. Hundreds of thousands of people viewed it though I’m sure many were curiosity seekers because of the media attention.

Anyone who is not aware of the deep spiritual hunger in the world today needs only to review this story. It joins hundreds of others in recent years. Statues that cry real tears or drip blood; oil patterns on windows with supposed spiritual significance; strange apparitions on church buildings; faces appearing in cloth. When these things happen, the crowds line up by the droves.

The world is starving for God but they are often looking in all the wrong places. The Lord complained in the Old Testament; “My people ask counsel from their wooden idols and their staff informs them. For the spirit of harlotry has caused them to stray, and they have played the harlot against their God.”(Hosea 4:12) Sounds like the same bunch that would be bidding for the sandwich on eBay doesn’t it?

If you are starved for God, listen to what Jesus said; “I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me shall never hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst.” (John 6:35) Seek God’s true spiritual food and you will not likely be hungering for ten year old grilled cheese.
