Where Would We Go? – John 6:66

Wake Up Call

Have you ever gotten so discouraged you just simply wanted to give up? There are certain battles that wear your resolve so thin you feel like you are an empty gas tank running on vapors. I’ve felt this way before myself but when it happens I always remember something Peter said to Jesus.

Besides all the miracles Jesus was performing he was also teaching some “hard sayings” which were difficult for some people to swallow. Because of it, many “of His disciples withdrew, and were not walking with Him anymore.” (John 6:66) Jesus wondered if any of his own twelve wanted to leave him also so he asked them.

Peter’s reply is profound. He said: “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have words of eternal life.”(Verse 68) In other words he was saying: what’s the alternative? He knew there wasn’t one.

Think about this for yourself. If you quit God, to whom will you turn? Is there some other path or teacher or way that can give you TRUTH – the words of eternal life? Is there some other god who will deliver you? The answer is NO.

Peter’s little remark has seen me through more than one rough time. No matter how dark or how confusing or how difficult life gets, don’t give up. We must hang in there. You know why? Because Peter got it right – where would we go?
