When do you pray? Is it mostly as you drive around a crowded parking lot looking for a good space to open up? Or how about when a crisis hits? Like getting a phone call in the middle of the night to go to the hospital fast. Maybe you pray mostly in church on Sunday. Or, only grace before meals?

There is a suggestion for a prayer time in the psalms that I think is a really good one. This was King David speaking to the Lord: “In the morning, O Lord, Thou wilt hear my voice; in the morning I will order my prayer to Thee and eagerly watch.” (Psalm 5:3) The day is fresh; new possibilities are pending! Morning time is a great time to pray.

Morning is that time of day where there are already lots of routines in place and prayer can fit right in. You brush your teeth every morning don’t you? You dress and go through certain other rituals like feeding the cat or taking your vitamins or reading the paper. Why not add daily intentional prayer to that routine?

Don’t worry if it is a little hard when you first begin. They say it takes three weeks for a new habit to take hold. But in prayer there is a big payback and that can help you over the hump. What is the payback? It is the part where you “eagerly watch.” David was excited to pray because then he saw the results come in.

God has answers for you even when there is no crisis. Start praying every morning. Then eagerly watch!
