Go Green – Isaiah 24:5

Wake Up Call

It’s really a shame that God’s people have so often lagged behind the world in championing environmental issues. That’s not the way it was intended. Remember that when Adam was in the garden, God had him choose each animal’s name signifying a deep understanding of the nature of the different creatures.

Man was to rule over the earth but not as the careless, wasteful despot that he has often been. There are consequences. Listen to what Isaiah says: “The earth is also polluted by its inhabitants, for they transgressed laws, violated statutes, broke the everlasting covenant” (Isaiah 24:5). The end result is what we now see. “Therefore, a curse devours the earth, and those who live in it are held guilty” (Verse 6).

There’s so much talk about global warming now and about used up resources and our “carbon footprint.” What if we would have been practicing the “everlasting covenant” God made with Adam and Eve all these millennia?

Some may think stewarding the earth isn’t a very ‘spiritual’ issue for the church to take up but I disagree. If we want to have clout around the world spiritually shouldn’t we at least demonstrate wise stewardship of our physical realm too? Jesus said as much: “If you’re not honest in small jobs, who will put you in charge of the store” (Luke 16:11 from The Message)?

C’mon Church! Let”s Go Green!
