What a great beginning the human race had. Adam and Eve were in the garden of Eden and all was well. They had the brightest future and as their offspring, so did we. But when Satan tempted Eve she ate from the forbidden fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. The sentence after that in the Bible is sad indeed: “and she gave also to her husband with her, and he ate.” (Genesis 3:6)

No – no – no Adam! Don’t do it! Oh what a mess. “Therefore the Lord God sent him out from the garden of Eden, to cultivate the ground from which he was taken.” (Genesis 3:23) Did you ever wonder what would have happened if Adam had said no? Would Eve have received the curse but not Adam? How would history have unfolded in that scenario? How would that division have affected the plan of salvation?

Really, its better the way it happened isn’t it? As sad as that is, every one of us inherited the curse – not half of us. We all share the results of that curse but we are all able to partake of the antidote: the cross of Christ. We are in this together.

Instead of disappointment in our original parents for introducing original sin, let’s look at it another way. None of us is above the other. The fact is that all of us have sinned and have fallen short of the glory of God. (See Romans 3:23) We can’t judge each other for sin of which we ourselves partake.

We all need the blood of Jesus shed for ALL mankind. That’s our common ground.
