Trapped by Mistake? – Genesis 3:1

Wake Up Call

Sometimes a very small mistake can produce horrific results. I was just informed by a tech friend that keying in one extra letter in Google’s domain name can take the web surfer to a site infested with horrible viruses and malicious spyware. Virus writers planned it that way. They registered a domain name very close to Google’s and they sit like spiders waiting for someone to wander into their web. When someone does – ZAP!

There is an enemy of our soul who sits and waits to zap us the same way. Satan is ever eager to exploit any small weakness in us or encourage any tiny mistake. Look what he did to Eve. He asked a simple question; “Has God indeed said, ‘You shall not eat of every tree of the garden’?” (Genesis 3:1) By entering into dialog with that deceiver, Eve caused the downfall of man and expulsion from the Garden of Eden. Big mistake!

We should be on the alert not to fall into the web of the devil. Many who have wandered in are soon hopelessly entangled. Psalm 17:4 says; “By the word of Your lips (God’s), I have kept away from the paths of the destroyer.” When our eye is on the Lord and our ear is attuned to His voice it is harder for Satan to capture our attention or trip us up. Be careful! We can only be “trapped by mistake” when we wander into his territory to begin with.
