A friend of mine is in a real pressure cooker in his workplace. Just when it seems things can’t get any hotter, the heat gets turned up again. He works for a company that is terribly mismanaged and you wonder why they don’t go under. Ethical standards are not a priority but bottom line profit is.

It’s hard to hold any one person responsible because you don’t know who is really driving decisions. With all the reorganizations and downsizings they’ve had, the players shift constantly and company goals are a moving target. Anxiety for middle managers is high; morale is low. My friend is in favor when he meets his budget, but since the budget is unrealistic for the upcoming months, he knows favor will vanish.

How do you stand tall amidst corporate quick sand? How do you maintain integrity when underhandedness is expected if not encouraged? Well, start off by asking yourself: who is in charge? Yes, these corporate stooges think they are in charge but they are sadly mistaken. God is the real one holding the head honcho title.

If they don’t shape up here is their end: “Do not fret because of evil men or be envious of those who do wrong; for like the grass they will soon wither, like green plants they will soon die away” (Psalm 37:1-2).

How do you live in this environment? “Commit your way to the Lord; trust in Him and He will do this: He will make your righteousness shine like the dawn, the justice of your cause like the noonday sun” (Psalm 37:5-6).

Take the pressure off by seeing things with new eyes. The job is temporary but; “The days of the blameless are known to the Lord, and their inheritance will endure forever” (Psalm 37:18).
