Consolation in Times of Trouble – Psalm 16:11

Wake Up Call

How do we respond when we are in a real pickle, feeling like we are in the middle of a sink hole with nothing to grab on to? What are those consolations that are a good counter attack to anxious thoughts in times of trouble?

I found the following passage in one of my journals written almost exactly one year ago which I’d like to share with you. If you are facing troubles in this season of life, perhaps it will encourage you. In this passage I’m addressing the Lord directly.

“It’s consoling to know that your Word is true, that all your promises are true BEYOND the circumstances. It’s consoling to know that “In Your presence is fullness of joy” (Psalm 16:11), and get down to the place where everything is stripped away except Jesus and me. Just like the old hymn says; “Turn your eyes upon Jesus; look full in his wonderful face. And the things of earth will grow strangely dim in the light of his glory and grace.”

It’s consoling to know that you, Lord, are in eternity. You already have a plan and a solution for all my circumstances. Nothing catches you by surprise.

It’s consoling to know you CARE. Sometimes we have to go through hard places and there isn’t going to be an instant fix. But how good when we have a friend who comes along side us, listens and cares. That is YOU Lord!”

If your current troubles are overshadowing your thoughts, stop and spend some time on God’s consolations instead. Your troubles will eventually end, but God’s consolations will endure and see you through, even the darkest times.
