All the Time in the World – Psalm 37:3

Wake Up Call

I have a friend who is raising her grandchildren. Because of the circumstances of their birth, they both have severe challenges right now, and probably will into adulthood. Even so, she and her husband have given themselves fully to the daunting all consuming task ahead.

My friend was mentioning yesterday that her time is the thing she misses the most. She used to have hours on end in which she could commune with God. Being a strong worshipper, she would fill her house with praise music and spend time in prayer. That’s all over now. She can barely take a bathroom break alone.

I wonder if she is actually closer to the Lord now than she was when she was alone with Him. I know it doesn’t seem that way, especially to her. But she is living this; “Trust in the Lord, and do good, dwell in the land and cultivate faithfulness” (Psalm 37:3).

What will then come of that? Without doubt, at the end of her life she will hear these prized words: “Well done, good and faithful servant; you have been faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your Lord” (Matthew 25:23).

I can’t even pretend to understand how hard her life is right now. But I know that just as she is being faithful to God, He is being faithful to her. When the day comes for entering into that great joy, I believe she will find an added delight: once again, the two of them will have all the time in the world.
