Count Your Gifts – Matthew 25:26

Wake Up Call

I bet you have some wonderful gifts. “Not me” you say as you smile self consciously and lower your head. But that isn’t true. You DO have some wonderful gifts. Don’t be humble. Find your gifts, develop them and use them. I have often talked with people who either have no idea what their God given gifts are or they feel it is prideful to admit them. Sometimes when you say to a person; “But you always make people feel so comfortable in your home” or “You can be trusted with a secret” or “You can make people laugh” they say; “Oh, that’s nothing. That’s just how I am.” To some, the gift seems too insignificant to acknowledge or else so natural that they figure everybody is the same way.

God has a high expectation that we will use the gifts and talents he has given us to honor him and to bless other people. Jesus even told a story about developing talents in Matthew 25. Those who worked their talents were rewarded with more but the guy who buried his talent and didn’t grow it was called a “wicked and lazy servant” (Verse 26) In the end Jesus says; “For to everyone who has, more will be given, and he will have abundance; but from him who does not have, even what he has will be taken away.”

Maybe somewhere along the line you were told you were worthless and had nothing to offer. If that happened to you, it did not come from God. He knows well and good about your gifts and talents because he is the one who placed them inside you. He doesn’t want them to just sit there getting dusty and rusty. There is a whole world of people who need what you have to offer just as you need what they have to offer. It’s really a giant gift exchange.

As you read this I pray an activation of your gifts. If you don’t know what they are I pray for discovery. If you have felt too shy to use them I pray for boldness. If you have buried them I pray for a resurrection. Count your gifts and watch them multiply!
