Sky Class – Psalm 19

Wake Up Call

What has no mouth yet, “day to day pours forth speech”? It’s a pretty simple riddle really, answered in Psalm 19. “The heavens are telling of the glory of God; and their expanse is declaring the work of His hands. Day to day pours forth speech, and night to night reveals knowledge” (Verses 1-2).

Here is a case where actions truly do speak louder than words. The universe is very active with comets flashing and moons revolving and stars bursting and black holes lurking and gases flaring. No end to it really. At least no human on earth has ever come to the end of it or imagined all of it.

Sometimes we are too grounded in the earth aren’t we? We stare so intently at our own life and circumstances until we forget there is anything beyond our own self-indulgent interests. That’s when we lose sight of precious truth and neglect the lessons that we have to look up and away to see.

God has a chalkboard for us in the sky. On it is written a brilliant lecture telling us of His glory, declaring to us the work of His hands. If we are good students we will listen intently and discover: “The law of the Lord is perfect, restoring the soul; the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple” (Verse 8).

Take some time soon and attend class. I hear the professor is out of this world.
