Doesn’t Hurt Anybody?

Wake Up Call

The TV news had a report the other day about the economy and they mentioned that one particular industry is in a phenomenal growth mode. In fact, according to the report, it never experienced recession. The industry is pornography which sold 12 billion dollars last year. Evidently to those “consumers” interested in it, there is no economic pinch when it comes to pursuing its products.

I was interested in a comment by some man they interviewed in conjunction with the report. His comment was; “Well, it doesn’t hurt anybody. It’s not like theft or murder. It’s just entertainment.” Who is this guy kidding? I know plenty of people who have been hurt by pornography.

How many children have had their innocence stolen by discovering pornographic material brought into the house by their parents? How many wives have experienced hurt and rejection when discovering their husband using internet pornography? How many lies have been told covering up? How many people are addicted to pornography with hooks into them as deep as alcohol and drug addiction and who can’t stop no matter how much they want to? How much time and money is stolen from people’s lives because of pornography?

The Bible says; “Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy-meditate on these things.” (Philippians 4:8) Does pornography match of any of those criteria?

If you are involved in this “growth” industry in ANY way or know someone who is, turn around and run the other way as fast as you can. If you are addicted get help and prayer because it is possible to be free. I know those who have been freed from it. Start thinking on the things in the Philippians’ quote instead. Let’s cause pornography to fall on economic hard times. This is surely one industry we don’t need for our recovering economy.
