No Regrets

Wake Up Call

A certain man loved pretty colored stones from the time he was a little boy. As he grew older, he came to understand the difference between cheap costume jewelry and gems such as sapphires, diamonds and emeralds. He became a jeweler and bought and sold precious stones for customers in his store. Still, he always kept a lookout for something rare and exquisite for himself.

One day a diamond of exceptional clarity and color came on the market. He could hardly believe it. He trembled a little just thinking of owning it. Possessing it would be the most satisfying thing in his life and he never intended reselling it. Though he had done well for himself in his business over the years he realized he could only afford this diamond if he sold everything else. His whole life’s work would have to go for this one stone.

Yet he knew it would be worth it and he put every asset he had into owning the beautiful flawless diamond. Once in his possession, he saw that he would never regret his decision.

Jesus tells a similar parable. “Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant seeking fine pearls, and upon finding one pearl of great value, he went and sold all that he had, and bought it.” (Matthew 13:45-46) Who is the merchant in the parable? Isn’t it God himself? And who is the pearl of great price that he sacrificed everything to purchase? Isn’t it YOU?

“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have eternal life.” (John 3:16)

He still has no regrets!
