Best New Year’s Resolution – Proverbs 25:28

Wake Up Call

What’s the number one best selling New Year’s resolution each and every year? You got it – lose weight! Maybe January should be designated “National Slim Down Month.”

I have to confess I have an interest in this myself this year. I let a few pounds slip on during the months of November and December. Now I am kicking myself because I am paying for those brief moments of foolish overindulgence. What do I have to show for that extra piece of “Lethal Chocolate Peppermint Cake” except tighter clothes?

So as I was flipping through my little Pocket Proverbs book this morning I saw two quotes that might benefit me. (You can use them too in case you were as foolish as I.) “Like a city whose walls are broken down is a man who lacks self-control” (Proverbs 25:28, NIV) and “Do you like honey? (or Chocolate Peppermint Cake?) Don’t eat too much of it, or it will make you sick” (Proverbs 25:16, TLB)!

The Bible always has good advice on every subject, doesn’t it? God is pretty practical; He doesn’t just give us the pie in the sky stuff but He knows where we really live. The more we read the more we see the wisdom of it. The more we put into practice the more we see our lives change for the better. Hmmm…putting it into practice. Now that’s got to be the best New Year’s resolution any of us can make!
