Have you ever suddenly had a bright light shine in your eyes causing you to shrink back? If you have been in a dark house and walk out the door to a very bright sunshiny day you know what I mean. Another example is a flash bulb unexpectedly going off in your face.

If our eyes are not prepared, light can cause us to recoil. Unfortunately, that’s what is going to happen to a lot of people when the Lord returns. Listen to this: “And now, little children, abide in Him, that when He appears, we may have confidence and not be ashamed before Him at His coming.” (1 John 2:28)

Jesus is the light of the world; can you imagine how bright he is? For those whose eyes are not prepared for him, they will fall back in deep shame. We therefore need to walk in as much light as possible every single day. Any of us who have pulled the curtains over our life to hide sin are foolish. Our darkness will entrap us and we won’t be joyous at his appearing.

How much light are you walking in? Beware lest “that Day come on you unexpectedly.” (Luke 21:34) Do you long for his return or when he comes will you shrink back?
