I think we should all pray for God to raise up some new “Daniel’s” in our day. Our governments sure need some of what he had. Here’s what the Queen of Babylon said of him while recommending him to King Belshazzar: “…an extraordinary spirit, knowledge and insight, interpretation of dreams, explanation of enigmas, and solving of difficult problems were found in this Daniel” (Daniel 5:12).
How badly needed is knowledge and insight right now? With the present world dangers and terrors, couldn’t we use someone who can explain enigmas and solve difficult problems? Besides his ample spiritual gifts, Daniel was a man of integrity. That alone would make him worth his weight in gold today.
Daniel lived in an ungodly culture, much like our own, but he didn’t let it rub off on him. He was familiar with deception, court intrigue, being stabbed in the back and falsely accused. Rather than become like the culture he served, he purposed to honor God first and remain completely honest and let the chips fall where they may.
When an angel of the Lord appeared to Daniel in response to his fastings and prayers, this is how the angel saluted him: “O Daniel, man of high esteem…” (Daniel 10:11). Now I ask: is there not one or two more upon the earth who can fit that title again? Where are you? Calling all men of high esteem…
