Can we see that our society is becoming more polarized? Certainly we can see it in the area of politics where we are divided into blue states and red states. Additionally, the shared moral consensus that our country once enjoyed is largely gone.
I remember a time when a whole neighborhood helped in the discipline of raising children. This could happen because all the parents were in agreement about what was right and what was wrong. Now an adult could risk being sued or at least being chastised for reprimanding someone else’s child.
There is a good side to this however. When the grey is gone out of our society black becomes blacker and white becomes whiter. That makes it easier to decide which side you want to be on.
The Bible talks about a time when there will be “Multitudes, multitudes in the valley of decision! For the day of the Lord is near in the valley of decision.” (Joel 3:14) The “day of the Lord” largely refers to the close of natural history as we know it when the great Tribulation ushers in the Second Coming of Christ.
Is that day near? If so, God is near. Are there multitudes streaming into that valley of decision? If so, the choice to serve either God or his enemy has never been clearer. “And it will come about that whoever calls on the name of the Lord will be delivered.”(Joel 2:32) Let them decide!
