Do You Get It? Proverbs 5:9

Wake Up Call

I rejoice when I hear of a deathbed conversion to Christ. Snatched from the enemy’s hand even at the last minute, that one will we welcomed into heaven for all eternity. And yet, when I hear of such stories, there is a part of me that is sad too.

Certainly they will go to heaven but they wasted their life on earth. What a shame. Proverbs 5:9 advises against coming to the end of life realizing too late “Lest you give your honor to others, and your years to the cruel one.” That person will say regretfully; “How I have hated instruction and my heart despised correction! I have not obeyed the voice of my teachers, nor inclined my ear to those who instructed me” (Proverbs 5:12-13).

Every year that we “get it” is to our great profit. Our life is not just a waiting room where we sit until the door opens and Death announces; “Come over now into eternity.” We are here for a purpose. What does it mean to “get it”? It means being fully alive and awake to God’s plan. It means obeying Him. It means not giving your years to the cruel one – the devil. It means making an impact on the earth for good as long as you are here.

If you are wasting time, stop; turn around and start immediately investing in God’s kingdom. Receive God’s instruction and correction and make the most of every moment you have left. You don’t want to have any regrets as you draw your last breath. Do you get it?
