What do you live with that you would like to live without? Think about it. Do you live with anger out of control? Are you filled with fear? Does jealousy fester around in you, or how about a critical spirit? Lust, gossip, overindulgence, greed – any of those ring a bell?
Paul the apostle wrote in Romans 7:19; “For the good that I will to do, I do not do; but the evil I will not to do, that I practice.” How often I have nodded my head in understanding and agreement with that passage. “Boy, you’ve got that right” I say to myself. What’s a person to do? Are we just doomed to settle for certain sins in our life?
No, no, no! We should settle for nothing less than overcoming victory and freedom. Isn’t that what Jesus secured for us at the cross? “For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death.”
Now how do we put all that together? Maybe we have to follow Jesus to the cross. Death hurts. I’ve noticed every time I try to give up a sin there is a big ouch! The flesh part of me wants to keep it and tries to convince the spirit part of me that it’s okay to coexist with it. But it isn’t okay.
How badly do you want to get rid of that thing you’ve been living with so long? Are you willing to condemn it to death? The killing may be painful but dead things don’t feel anymore so go ahead and do it. Now start living free.
