Do oil and water mix? If you are putting those two ingredients into a salad dressing you’d better shake it up and pour it on the greens fast because they are not going to stick together.
I thought about this a few weeks ago in a conversation I had with a supposedly Christian woman. She asked me my birthday and when I told her she commented on my astrological sign. When I indicated I don’t follow or believe in astrology she firmly stated; “I do.” She seemed unaware that following Christ and astrology is like mixing oil and water.
Is there something wrong with following astrology? Yes, there is if you care what God thinks about it. Before the children of Israel entered the land of promise they were told not to “imitate the detestable ways of the nations there. Let no one be found among you who sacrifices his son or daughter in the fire, who practices divination or sorcery, interprets omens, engages in witchcraft, or casts spells, or who is a medium or spiritist or who consults the dead. Anyone who does these things is detestable to the Lord.” (Deuteronomy 18:9-11) That covers astrology and much more.
In case you have been doing a little dabbling “just for fun” into any of the popular New Age offerings, think seriously about who you are going to serve. You can’t serve two masters. God desires that your trust be in Him and not star positions. No mixing!
