Follow His Footsteps – Matthew 14:31

Wake Up Call

I found this interesting anonymous quote recently: “What good is having someone who can walk on water if you don’t follow in his footsteps?” Jesus, of course is the someone who walked on water and Peter was the guy back then who followed in his footsteps until his faith faltered a bit.

The story is told in Matthew 14. As Peter began to feel afraid and started to sink, Jesus; “stretched out His hand and took hold of him, and said to him, ‘O you of little faith, why did you doubt?” (Verse 31)

I like the challenge in the quote. Is our own faith following in the footsteps of Jesus? Here we are serving a Savior who can do all things. As he walked the earth more than 2000 years ago, he demonstrated his power. He healed, did miracles, delivered – walked on water.

Shouldn’t we act like the one we say we follow? May it never be that Jesus says of us; “O you of little faith”. Since Jesus had big faith – water walking faith – we need big faith too. In fact, if we want to please our master we must have faith. Hebrews 11:6 says; “And without faith it is impossible to please Him…”

Be like Peter. Jump out of the boat and start across. As you develop your faith, don’t drop back or worry too much about it when you have some doubts. Didn’t Jesus reach out his hand to Peter? He will do the same for you. It’s better to be found in some deep water than sitting in a comfortable safe boat.

Do you follow Jesus? Follow his footsteps!
