A Wide Door

Wake Up Call

Are you working on an assignment from the Lord right now? Do you feel you have open doors to do it? Paul had such a time while he was in Ephesus. He was writing to the Corinthian church and mentioned to them “for a wide door for effective service has opened to me, and there are many adversaries.” (1 Corinthians 16:9)

Don’t forget that last part: “there are many adversaries.” In fact, consider those two things as going hand in hand. Doesn’t it make sense? If there are effective ministry opportunities, Satan is going to be Johnny on the spot to try to stop it, hinder it, reverse it or neutralize it.

Sometimes we only walk through open doors if they are easy. Sometimes we take opposition for doors closing instead of for a sign that “effective service” is taking place. We should actually be encouraged when many adversaries gather around us.

Work your assignment with all diligence. And here’s a strategy for getting much accomplished: “Let all that you do be done in love.” (Verse 14) Love can overcome offense. Love can conquer obstacles. Love is a perfume that Satan abhors and will avoid. He will likely be ineffective in stopping you if love is sprinkled on every door.

If you have been discouraged in the great number of adversaries getting in your way as you work, don’t be. Remember: it’s a W-I-D-E door.
