What is your family heritage? Do you come from a long line of scholars or scoundrels? None of us was dropped onto the earth clean from a past family except Adam and Eve. We all have hosts of ancestors who came before us and, even though now dead, still affect and influence us.
Alcoholism runs in families as do certain diseases such as cancer and heart problems, high cholesterol and diabetes. On the other hand, good things run in families too. Things like integrity, health, artistic talent, music, a heart for service. It’s worth thinking about your past in order to determine your future. What kind of a family heritage will your children and grandchildren have because of decisions you made in your generation?
Examine your history. Whatever is good, declare that it will flourish and continue in your generation and the ones to come. Whatever is evil; declare that it dies in THIS generation and that it cannot go into the next. Thank God for every blessing that you inherited through your natural family but cut off any curse.
By what right can you do this? If you are a Christian, you have been grafted into God’s family. This is your heritage: “Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us, for it is written: ‘Cursed is everyone who is hung on a tree.’ He redeemed us in order that the blessing given to Abraham might come to the Gentiles (that’s us if we are non-Jews) through Christ Jesus.” (Galatians 3:13)
What a family heritage God has given us. As long as Jesus did all that, let’s take advantage of it!
