Name Change – Acts 9:4

Wake Up Call

I keep thinking about the way Saul became Paul. On the road to Damascus to persecute Christians, he was stopped cold in his tracks. God really got his attention. A light from heaven flashed and he fell to the ground stunned. He heard a voice; “Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting Me?” Saul asked who he was and the reply came back; “I am Jesus whom you are persecuting.” (Acts 9:4-5)

He proceeded on the road with the help of companions because he was struck blind. Spiritually blind was what he had been all along until then. Now he could see in a new way and the incident turned his life around. He was a brand new man and the old life fell away.

I’ve seen lots of people converted to Christ over the years. Some of them have also had very dramatic conversions which produced changed lives. But I have seen others whose walk doesn’t seem to line up with their talk. I know a man right now who claims to be a Christian but his deeds continue to be that of a heathen.

I remember an old question I used to hear years ago: If you were arrested for being a Christian, would there be enough evidence to convict you? Good question to ponder. Hopefully you are you like Paul; so different you’re eligible for a name change!
