Bone Weary – Isaiah 40:31

Wake Up Call

Last night I was bone weary. I had an exhilarating day in a ministry setting, but one that even so, sucked nearly every drop of energy from my body and my soul. Today is slightly better and I am recuperating. I find I want to simply sit still and stare into space. Is that what they call “vegging-out”? That’s probably a pretty good description.

As I sit here quietly this scripture comes to mind; “But those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength” (Isaiah 40:31). I see this in a whole new light now. In order to need strength renewed it must have been drained away. Ah yes, that certainly applies to me. So this word is mine along with every other bone weary soul out there.

What is so encouraging is the simplicity of the solution. I don’t have to do anything except wait; he will do all the work and my strength will return. How that all happens seems like a miracle and a mystery but I’m too tired to try to figure it out. In the meanwhile, I’ll just continue to sit here for a spell.

I also like the promise of the Lord that follows when strength returns. “They will mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.” Are you bone weary? Now you have your marching orders and it will be the easiest duty you ever pulled. Do nothing except wait on the Lord. Just watch – we’ll be flying again in no time.
