I have been trying to sell my home for the past 5 months with no luck. I was hoping that if I had a priest come in and bless my home it might help with us selling and bring a positive aura in.

Luck & Superstition (Part 1)
Is it really “luck” that you need? Will a priest blessing your house really bring in a better “aura”? More than addressing the issue of how to get your house sold, I would like to address the dangers and repercussions of superstition. We are most vulnerable to turn to superstition when we lose control over some area of our life.
In your case, you can’t sell your house. For someone else; they can’t find a marriage partner or they are having difficulty getting pregnant or their dream job eludes them or they can’t seem to avoid traffic tickets. One of our hardest challenges in life is how we handle what we can’t control.
We all have plenty of experience in that category – nobody sails through life without obstacles. We want to make things happen OUR way in OUR time and we can’t stand it when we can’t force what we want to happen. That’s where luck comes sashaying in appearing all attractive. Maybe if I rub my lucky penny; maybe this or that ritual will produce results; maybe my house needs a better aura to attract buyers.
The dictionary defines luck as a force that brings good fortune or adversity. Who or what is that force? What mood is the “force” in today? Will the “force” grant me a buyer for my house or withhold one till I fulfill some ritual? Did I irritate the force by breaking a rule? Am I now in a string of bad luck?
I advise substituting luck for trust – trust in God and not in any force or superstitious practice. I believe in clinging to this truth when life seems out of control: “If God is for us, who can be against us?” (Romans 8:31) When we know deep in our heart that God cares about every detail of our life, we can submit our prayer requests to him in perfect confidence that he will work everything for our good.
Selling our house plays second fiddle to being in the center of God’s will and submitting to his will over our own. It can be hard sometimes but in the long run it is the best way to live.
Auras & Houses (Part 2)
I’d like to address the subject of auras separately here. Auras have become a popular topic as New Age beliefs have gained influence in our culture particularly over the last thirty years.
The term is thrown around quite a bit so I wanted to understand how New Age adherents define aura themselves. I went to some New Age/Psychic web sites and found this simple explanation. “The Aura is the energy field of the life-force and appears to mediums and those with clairvoyant vision as a fibrous light that surrounds living things.”
Right off the bat you notice who is interested in auras – mediums and clairvoyants. Under what category do such people belong? Occultism and Spiritism. Here’s what the Bible says about that: “There shall not be found among you anyone who makes his son or his daughter pass through the fire, one who uses divination, one who practices witchcraft, or one who interprets omens, or a sorcerer, or one who casts a spell, or a medium, or a spiritist, or one who calls up the dead.” (Deuteronomy 18:11)
How does God feel about these practices? “For whoever does these things is detestable to the Lord.” (Verse 12) If we wish to flow in the blessings and favor of God we need to stay far from such activities. This is for our protection. The passage in Deuteronomy tells the Israelites that it is because of such practices that the current inhabitants of the land of Canaan are being kicked out. God wanted the Promised Land to be free from these curses for his people.
So, should you be worrying about what kind of an aura your house has? I don’t think so. Blessing your house (no matter who performs the blessing) will not produce a better aura. Blessing a house is not a superstition and should not be treated as such.
When you bless a house you are inviting God’s presence and blessing and you are removing any hindrance which would prevent it. It’s as simple as that. When light comes, darkness flees.
Would a house that is filled with God’s peace and joy be more attractive to prospective buyers? I believe so but you must remember that it is not based on the ritual itself. Watch your motives as you perform a house blessing; that’s what God is watching.
Life without Shortcuts (Part 3)
If you want to sell your house I would suggest you pray. First, is it God who is directing you to sell your house at this time? If the idea is his, he will provide a buyer. If not, consider taking your house off the market and join in what he’s doing instead of asking him to support what you want to do.
Do bless your house whether you sell it or not. Pray that every person who enters through your doors will sense God and will want to know him more. Pray for God to send buyers who will be blessed by living in your house and who will serve him. Pray that God will direct you to the right place for your own new home.
Don’t succumb to superstitions or seek “luck”. These are shortcuts which attempt to manipulate God so you can control your own life. Know that God is on your side as you put him first. That’s a whole lot better than all the luck in the world.
