I have a friend who sends me interesting and beautiful artwork that she finds on the Internet. I got one yesterday that was just breathtaking. There were a series of intricate egg shell sculptures done with a laser. At the end of the pictures a caption read: “A true friend is someone who knows you’re a good egg even if you’re a little cracked.”
I “cracked” up laughing even though I was sitting alone in front of my computer. How true, I thought. My cracks are in different places than my friends, but we all have them. Over time it is easy to take our friendships for granted and begin to be irritated by small personality quirks in others.
We stop extending grace to our friends while at the same time not realizing how much effort they are extending in putting up with us. We need to step back when this happens. After all, if someone became a friend to begin with, there must have been some wonderful qualities we were attracted to. We would be wise to turn our attention back to those things.
The Bible says; “A true friend is always loyal, and a brother is born to help in time of need”(Proverbs 17:17, TLB). Are you a true friend? Are you always loyal? Do you help in time of need? Good! You’re a good egg!
