Today’s message might not be for everyone. I’m directing it to women — specifically women who have lost a husband through death or divorce. Beyond that, I’m speaking to women who feel lost, alone, inadequate or overwhelmed with the circumstances caused by that loss.
To those of you who fit this description, have you ever blurted out in exasperation: “I was not meant to be single”? The partnership of marriage fit like a glove and being gloveless feels bare and cold. Yes, but I have hope for you and a real promise you can take to the bank.
The Lord promises to take you up and be the husband that you lost. “‘Fear not, for you will not be put to shame; neither feel humiliated, for you will not be disgraced; but you will forget the shame of your youth, and the reproach of your widowhood you will remember no more. For your husband is your Maker, whose name is the Lord of hosts.'” (Isaiah 54:4)
I remember a pickle I was in once where things were deteriorating in a conversation with someone who had spiritual authority over me. In my mind I cried out: “You are my husband Lord. Get me out of this NOW!” Amazingly, suddenly the person reversed himself and came into complete agreement with my decision. The incident ended in perfect peace.
There really is no better husband than the Lord. He’s the guy that all the human husbands should be taking lessons from. If your Maker is your husband, consider yourself a blessed wife indeed!
