How good is your memory? Mine varies. At my age I sometimes struggle with a phone number someone gave me five minutes ago but then I can still remember the birthday of my best friend in fifth grade. Then there are those things I want to remember versus stuff I would rather forget.
One thing that seems to stick pretty easily is any times when I have been hurt by someone. Pain, emotional or otherwise, evidently is seared on the brain and can always be called up at a moment’s notice.
Well, how good is God’s memory? Not a contest is it? He is ALL knowing and there isn’t a thing in all of the history of the universe that he doesn’t still know perfectly without missing a detail. However, strange as it sounds, I can tell you one thing that God has totally forgotten.
When we have confessed our sin to him and repented of it – he forgets. Totally forgets. How do you square that with the fact that he is ALL knowing? I don’t know really, that’s a big mystery and yet it is true because he tells us this in his Word; “I, even I, am He who blots out your transgressions for My own sake; and I will not remember your sins.” (Isaiah 43:25)
Seems like in the area of hurt God is the opposite of us. We remember sins, hurts and offenses against ourselves just about forever. He, on the other hand, blots them out of his memory after we have brought them to the foot of the cross. For that I will be eternallygrateful. How about you?
